I like the idea that every day, I can evolve into a better version of myself. What does that entail though? That means every day, I’m working hard to achieve what I failed to achieve yesterday, and that’s a mindset we all ought to adopt. Where I’m from, I’ve met a lot of broken people, living in broken homes, dealing with broken hearts, every day, living a shattered life; however, most of this is a result of poverty, a failing education system, and other unfathomable causes of systemic racism and discrimination.
[There’s another but coming.]
But, YOU are great, We are great, so we cannot continue to allow broken promises, break our resiliency. As you read on, today will be the day you rewire your nerves, revisit your personality, and reevaluate your mentality as you embark on a journey of rebranding and restructuring…
“The longer you stay on the elevator, the emptier it gets”–
Now, let’s be clear, the elevator to success is a lonely one, just as this journey of restructuring will appear to be. The reason why I say that is because you should expect to lose some people in your current circle. I’m not saying you should go around burning bridges left and right because that’s NOT the way to go about it– never burn bridges faster than you can walk them! The more you talk up yourself to people, the more you tell them how you’re working on bettering yourself, and the more they actually begin to see change, they’ll start to fade out of your life (and that’s okay).
By doing so, you are naturally filtering toxic relationships out of your life, protecting your inner peace. It’s not all bad though (this journey of yours), you’re going to have some real ones in your corner, they are going to be the ones who are also trying to better themselves, or have already restructured their lives and have mentioned to you about doing the same, now they’re just really proud to see you actually making strides– these are the people that we need.
After you finish reading this, what I want you to do is point out the ‘real ones’ in your corner, send them a text or give them a call showing them that you appreciate them! So, are you ready? Are you ready to lead a better life, full of growth, leadership, and success? What is success? That’s a question really for you to answer because we define our OWN success.
I do have one more piece of advice (more so focused towards my millennials). This generation we live in today, I call the ‘Watch Me’ generation. We took social media, what could have easily been our most powerful tool in terms of communication, networking, and branding, and a lot of us have allowed it to swallow us whole. We are so obsessed with giving the perception that we are bettering ourselves, that we spend more time posting about these things than we do actually making progress! And then, once the next person gets the jump on us, we’d rather be bitter and find ways to disqualify their success.
Don’t be mad, instead, you should be “thanking the winners” as they serve as a constant reminder that you aren’t where you want to be yet, but you’re going to keep pushing, right? Of course, you are! Because you are great, we are great, and we could use each other’s positive energy to get to where we need to get!
