As you listen to any Lil Uzi Vert project, there is a clear distinction of tone as you go from one to another. Whether or not this is clear to you, there is definitely a love story to be told the more we dive into it. From the joy of chasing a girl to the end result of a nasty breakup filled with sorrow and pain, Uzi has it all captured in 4 solid projects.
Luv is Rage 1- October 30th, 2015
An album full of braggadocios verses and a continuous need to flex everything Uzi has to offer. Flexing is clearly directed at all males and especially towards females. (refer to “Safehouse”, where the definition of flexing is presented) You also get a sense that Uzi is playing hard to get with his “whatever” attitude that is exerted in the beginning skit in “7 am”. The need for people in his life right now just isn’t there, but there are certainly hints that maybe he wouldn’t mind if there was.
Lil Uzi Vert vs the World- April 15th, 2016
A very long anticipated project for Uzi following his Luv 1 tape which was received positively was filled with the idea that Uzi may have finally decided on the girl he wants and may even side with her to keep her. “Ps and Qs” is a perfect song to fit this because of the very scandalous lyrics about taking the girl (cough* Brittany) from her boyfriend and being very pleased with his choice. Then we head over to “You Was Right”, where Uzi’s tone has completely changed from Luv 1 because now he actually will admit he shouldn’t be with other girls because he just wants her. No more ignoring the girls because Uzi may have found the one.
The Perfect Luv Tape- July 31st, 2016
It’s official! Uzi’s love life is beginning to crumble and there is nothing he can do about it. Slower beats and a moodier change in his voice clearly depict what this album is trying to paint in our minds. “Do What I Want” was truly the perfect song to start this mixtape because it gave us insight into how Uzi is trying to live his life right now. “Erase Your Social” lets us know that he feels as if his current girlfriend just wants him for his money. The platinum star almost takes a comical approach to the realization that his relationship is falling apart with lines like “cause I just got my baby (sike)” and “feeling ain’t changed but you might need something new, yea might need a better dude”.
Luv is Rage 2- August 25th, 2017
This album certainly did what it was meant to do which was truly plant the image of a breakup in our heads. An album full of heartbreaking songs may even hit home to some of us, but it definitely hit Uzi harder. Lines about turning to pills to mask his pain of a breakup and lying to himself that he doesn’t care anymore are just 2 elements of the life Uzi was living at the time of the breakup. “The Way Life Goes” is the center piece of this whole album, encouraging everyone in a breakup that “you’ll find another life to live”. This is truly one of my favorite songs Uzi has ever made because the honesty in this track is prevalent. The thought wrenching question that everyone wants to know, “Is Uzi still with Brittany?” was answered in “XO Tour llif3” with one defining line, “my Brittany got mad now, I’m barely her man now”
Lil Uzi Vert’s projects are honestly very hard to depict and decode sometimes but once you get past the constant bragging and flamboyant nature, there truly is a story hidden behind blurry lines of Uzi’s music.
